Top 10 Movies I Want To See in Blu-ray: Part III
Here’s the last installment of the Top 10 movies I want released on Blu-ray. This completes the 4 titles I posted a couple of days ago and the 3 I did yesterday.
3. Lord of the Rings Trilogy
It was one of the most eagerly awaited movie franchises, both theatrically and on home cinema. It is also so, as far as Blu-ray is concerned. This Peter Jackson epic trilogy was a classic as soon as the movies were shown – universally loved and critically praised.
The adventures of Frodo Baggins will shine in hi-def, from the leagy green on the Shire to the menacing grays of Mordor. Blu-ray will do these movies proud. Hopefully, both cuts of each movie will be made available, maybe by seamless branching…maybe even new versions, knowing Mr. Jackson. They looked superb on SD. I know they’ll look absolutely stunning on BD.
The SD version boasted of dts ES 6.1 discrete and DD5.1 EX. Here’s hoping New Line will bless us with a dts HDMA 7.1 mix and maybe also a Dolby Tru-HD or PCM 7.1 mix. Either way, we know Mr. Jackson will ensure that fans see and hear these beauties in the best possible way.
Knowing New Line, these movies will come with loads of bonus material, all shot in hi-def. I, for one, cannot wait to add these to my collection.
2. Alien Quadrilogy
The Alien saga has always been one of my favourite movie franchises EVER, and I, for one, cannot wait to see and hear these in high definition. Fox certainly knows how to encode these dark, gloomy, claustrophobic classics. I don’t think any other studio could do these movies justice – all those dark corners and disgusting mucus captured in hi-def.
And what about the sound? All 4 movies rocking in dts HD Master audio with all that hissing and blood-curdling screaming will be aural delight. Please let us have 7.1 – I promise to eat all my vegetables!
Hopefully, Fox will do us proud and give us bucket loads of extras, hopefully all in hi-def also. Maybe some decent interactive material, too. We can only hope and pray. One last thing – I hope we can have both cuts of each movie.
1. Star Wars Episodes 1-6
What can I say – this saga is the top must-have of almost every HD fanatic. A virtual wet dream for all Star Wars fans is the entire series in all its HD glory. The numerous battles in space would look superb on Blu-ray, and the battles on the planet surfaces would blow us away. We would forgive Jarjar Binks for being a twat if he’s in HD.
My favorite scene would be the battle at the beginning of Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. I, for one, would probably spoil my shorts. Let’s hope George Lucas adds some of the deleted and extended scenes to them, or maybe put both versions of each movie (theatrical and extended).
As for the audio, dts HDMA would blow us into the stratosphere, probably literally. This being a Fox title, I know they can do the business with the movies. There’s no better studio to do these movies justice. And let’s hope we get loads of special features in HD to keep all Star Wars fans happy. The force really would be strong with these Blu-rays.

Bah, can’t believe you put Star Wars above the Rings. Blasphemer!
Nice list overall if not surprising. Liking the site Steve, keep up the good work!

Thanks man. As movies i actually prefer LOTR but as far as audio/ visuals go i truly believe SW will be hard to beat. How you getting on with your PS3? I updated mine to profile v2.30 but only had the chance to check out a few scenes from various movies before i headed down to Southern Thailand for a couple weeks. Man i’m missing my blu-rays. If you have anything that you love or hate about blu-ray let us all know . Your input really would be appreciated. If you fancy doing a review of a movie you have feel free to post it. Take care….
