Band Of Brothers Headed for Blu-ray in Autumn 2008

Well, after many months of prayers and speculation, HBO have confirmed that the fabulous mini-series, Band Of Brothers, is finally headed for Blu-ray in “time for the holidays this autumn (fall).” Very little has been revealed as of yet, but what has been confirmed is that it will be a 6-disc set, and will come in a tin box almost identical to that utilized for the DVD set that came out 6 years ago.

Also revealed is that ALL of the special features present on the current DVD boxset will make it to BD along with some new Blu-Ray exclusives, such as picture-in-picture commentaries with surviving members of Easy Company, and In The Field With The Men Of Easy Company. Sound is simply described as dts - let’s hope HBO sees fit to make it dts HD Master Audio 7.1. After all, this series really does deserve nothing less. It’s well-known that the series was filmed in Hi-Def, so it will look fantastic on BD. The use of grain and the de-saturated look really suited the style of the series.

I have been hesitant about buying TV shows on BD as i’m not sure there is high rewatchability (I love Lost, Prison Break, and Heroes, but not enough to keep watching them), but this is definitely the exception (along with Battlestar Galactica, of course). No price has yet been revealed, but that doesn’t matter. I know for myself and almost every Blu-ray fanatic out there that this will be a Day One purchase, whatever the price.

These guys put their lives on the line to stop tyranny across wartime Europe, and this series is a fitting tribute to their remarkable bravery and sacrifice. As the tagline so eloquently states: They Depended On Each Other And The World Depended On Them.
