Unbreakable: Broken?
It has come to my attention that the forthcoming Blu-ray of M. Night Shyamalan’s brilliant super hero movie, Unbreakable, appears to have a a defective PCM soundtrack which causes it to ‘pop’ on several occasions during the movie.
The first pop appears abot 8:30 into the movie (the train scene) and emanates from the right surround. A second pop appears approximately 1:28:21, just after Bruce Willis falls into the swimming pool. This one emanates from the centre channel.
Various people have stated that the pops, though not thunderously loud, are quite distracting, taking them out of what is a marvelously engaging movie. I believe Disney has been made aware of this problem and will fix the problem soon, so you have a choice:
A. Buy the Blu-ray disc and hope that Disney will eventually offer an exchange program, or
B. Wait for the “fixed” copies to hit the shelves so you won’t have to go through A.
I have to say, though, that Disney’s customer service is known to be pretty good, even though my Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl exchange took ages (I do live in Thailand, mind you!). So either way, once Disney fixes this disc, there shouldn’t be any problems.
Here’s the email addressed I used for the POTC Blu-ray disc replacement: disneyinfo [at] disneyhelp [dot] com. Obviously, I cannot confirm just yet whether this email will be used for Unbreakable, but you never know. If I find out any more about this, I will post an update immediately so that you can at least make an informed decision on whether to buy or hold off for a while. If you do buy it, do let us know right here if it is indeed faulty or A-ok. Either way, I would value your comments.
