Universal Goes dts HDMA

Universal have announced that almost all upcoming Blu-rays will now feature dts HDMA audio. This officially starts with the original 3 movies from The Mummy franchise (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and The Scorpion King) on July 22. This is great news, especially as the 9 million plus PlayStation 3 owners will have instant access to this – the most prized HD audio codec.

Remember that, initially when Universal released titles on HD-DVD, the best that consumers could hope for was DD+. Even towards the end, they were only releasing sporadic titles on Dolby True-HD, so this is welcome news. Let’s hope their visuals match their audio as their releases on HD-DVD were basically hit-and-miss.

My personal favorites that I’d love to see and hear on BD are King Kong (director’s cut), The Jurassic Park trilogy, The Bourne trilogy, Children of Men, and the Back to the Future trilogy. These titles will sound great with dts HDMA.

Coming so soon after Paramount’s press release, this has been an extremely good week for the BDA, and especially all us die-hard Blu-ray fanatics.
